Solar Panels
Solar panels (or modules) are comprised of multiple layers of silicone that are chemically engineered to have either a surplus or deficit of electrons. When solar radiation from the sun hits the solar module the electrons become ‘excited’ and the surplus electrons have a natural tendency to move to the layer with the deficit to create a balance. This movement or flow of electrons is the DC electric current created by the panel.
As the solar system has a life expectancy of 25 or more years the performance of the module over time is extremely important.
Solar Inverters
The inverter is the heart of a solar PV system and is the device which converts the direct current (DC) produced by the solar panels into the alternating current (AC) usable power for your premises.
The inverter bears the brunt of the workload, and therefore the choice of the inverter manufacturer is critical. Unlike the PV panels, the inverters contain all of the electronics and moving parts and therefore if a component is likely to fail, it is more likely to be in the inverter.
